Frequently Asked Questions
A coalition is an organization of individuals who come together to achieve a certain goal or serve a specific mission. The Rockwood Drug-Free Coalition is comprised of volunteers from all sectors of the Rockwood community who work to provide leadership, education and resources to prevent and address youth substance use.
Currently, the Coalition receives federal Drug-Free Communities grant support, as well as state grant funding, private donations and extensive in-kind support. In years past, funding came from State Incentive Grant and Title IV funding. Future funding may come from private foundations or public sources. To sustain operations, Coalition staff and volunteers continually seek new funding streams.
Adult and youth volunteers come from all sectors of the Rockwood community. We have many parents of middle school and high school age children, as well as adolescents and teens themselves, from both private and public schools. We also have representatives from schools, the faith-based community, law enforcement, health care, social services, youth-serving organizations, government, businesses, media and treatment.
Nothing. Many parents and youth become involved to learn more. Other volunteers are nurses, school resource officers, counselors, prevention and treatment professionals, police officers, probation and parole officers, and school administrators who "see a lot" in their respective roles and want to try to make a difference on a community level. We share and learn, strategize and implement, and evaluate together. We will put your time and talents, whatever they might be, to use!
There is no requirement. We welcome your attendance and participation at monthly meetings, if/when you are able to attend. We also welcome your assitance with specific projects and events. You can devote as little or as much time as you'd like.
Simply join us at our next meeting, held on the second Thursday of every month at LaSalle Springs Middle School (in the library) from 3:45-5:15, or call Jean Sokora 636-733-2136
