Art

The elementary art program in Rockwood is taught by certified art specialists. The 1-5 program provides approximately 55-60 minutes of instruction every week. The kindergarten students receive a minimum of 30 minutes of instruction per week. The program gives each student a quality art education based on art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetic awareness. Important art concepts are based on the elements and principles of design stressed at each grade level.

Kindergarten Intro to Art and the Art Studio
First Grade Line, Shape, Form and Rhythm
Second Grade Color
Third Grade Texture, Balance and Unity
Fourth Grade Value, Emphasis and Contrast
Fifth Grade Space and Proportion

These concepts will be attained by each student through an integrated approach involving art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetic awareness. Although specific elements and principles are emphasized at each grade level, all principles and elements naturally occur during the production component and are addressed at each grade level.
