Rockwood Schools Recognized as 2019 National Schools of Character

5/10/2019

Learn about the eight Rockwood schools who earned
Promising Practices Awards from Character.org.

Rockwood believes in the importance of character education to support the social, emotional and ethical development of students. Because of their efforts in character education, two Rockwood schools have been named 2019 National Schools of Character (NSOC) by Character.org (formerly the Character Education Partnership):

  • Lafayette High School
  • Blevins Elementary School

Blevins Elementary School received the NSOC designation for a second time. The school was awarded its first designation in 2014.

"I'm extremely proud of all our schools that have earned this outstanding accomplishment," says Dr. Eric Knost, Rockwood superintendent. "A strong character education program is a foundation for our students and their learning. It's about helping students to love life so they may thrive in this world."

National Schools of Character have demonstrated through a rigorous evaluation process that character development has had a positive impact on academics, student behavior, and school climate. Each year, Character.org and its state affiliates select schools and districts that demonstrate a dedicated focus on character development programs.
