Dr. Eric D Knost
Dr. Eric Knost has more than 30 years in public education, serving the last four as superintendent of the Rockwood School District. This suburban school district serves over 22,000 students on 32 school campuses. Located in West St. Louis County, the district is noted for high student achievement and outstanding teachers and staff.
Superintendent Dr. Eric Knost keeps the district focused on unity, excellence and relationships. He was cited in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as a "Top Confidence-Boosting Leader" in our metropolitan area. The Rockwood school community lauded its Superintendent for being an effective communicator who is positive and clear about his goals for the district. Guided by district's goal areas, he delivers on the Rockwood promise to ensure all students realize their potential.
Innovation in Schools: Under Dr. Knost's leadership, the district passed two bond issues within two years, funding more than $164 million for innovative learning projects throughout the district. This includes major STEM updates and additions in all four high schools, a 1-to-1 technology program, and innovative learning centers in all Rockwood elementary schools. He strongly believes learning becomes much more meaningful to all students when we give them opportunities to create and share an end-product. Innovative learning, experiential learning, invention learning, real-time or real-life learning - these are all powerful ways for students to acquire meaningful knowledge. With the passage of bond issue funding, innovation is now a reality for Rockwood students.
Connecting with the Community: Dr. Knost's reach on social media is extensive. With more than 12,000 followers on his @ROCK_Supt account, students, staff and community members follow him on his weekly school visits. This connection builds trust and proved to be valuable when the area was impacted by natural disasters through major flooding. The Rockwood school community watched as our Superintendent filled sandbags, boated to flooded buildings and managed the restoration process. He is an open, visible and accessible leader in Rockwood.
Social Emotional Learning: Dr. Knost believes the relationships between teachers and students is at the heart of learning. Research shows students who have a caring relationship with a teacher are more motivated to learn, and, hence, they enjoy school more and demonstrate greater academic success. Dr. Knost focuses his efforts on small class sizes and encourages educators to unite in helping all kids to thrive in this world.
